a 150 years ago today
150 years ago today Confederate batteries, commanded by General PGT Beauregard, opened fire on Federal Fort Sumpter in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina. They were the first shots of the American Civil War. 24 hours later the commander of Fort Sumpter surrendered.

Finder and Snipes were involved as well ... Fortunately, for Finder, he had already served in the Revolutionary war as a young fighting lad and the war of 1812 and thus took on a desk job.
Did I mention a lack of sleep and coffee lately?

hahahhahahahahhaaa. Very funny Badger. What's your guid# again? And Kenni , Coffee and Trooper, why do you encourage and promote such behavior?
Back to the original post topic. Thanks for posting this Kenni, it is an important part of this country's history. I am not too sure our kids are being taught any more what made this country great. The sacrifices that have been made.
As far as Pickett's charge. I tried to tell him not to do it.

They are in Alabama... The civil war is probably the most up to date our textbooks are. Thanks to the new budget we will be using the ones we have now for a few more years.

Now that's what I like to hear. Good for you guys, Badger and Lake. It gives me comfort to know some of this country's youth is concerned about their education and to actually have a knowledge of this country's past.

Thanks, Old Man And, I thought I'd say that anyways...in case it wasn't obvious from my avatar.
And mainly History interests are: Ancient (mostly Egyptian), American (everything but mostly Civil and the second World War).

Re: a 150 years ago today
I am reading this awesome book on WWI and there is a sequel on WWII. It focuses not on the battles or the actual events that happen in the war, but what caused it. It's very revealing... If you're interested, its called WWI: the rest of the story and how it affects you today by richard maybury. There is also a prequel called the thousand year war, which is about the war in the middle east. One thing I like about the books is that they are very easy to understand and they are fairly short. He has a bunch of other books in the series about economics, money, and other books that I havent read yet about liberalism/conservatism and about justice.
Well... that was off topic maybe i better say something about the civil war... nah.
