Re: Computer problems
Is it only when you are playing a game? If it is, your video card could be overheating. Can you take the side panel off and have a look at your video card? Maybe needs a good cleaning (dust). I usually take mine out every few months or so and give it a good cleaning with a can of compressed air.

Or he waits till the wife is away and drags the hose from the air compresser from the garage thru the house and blasts it out!

Re: Computer problems
sounds like possibly the graphics card or the RAM over heating. When it overheats it doesnt function as properly and actually deteriorates its life.
You use a laptop? If so, I recommend a cooling stand with fans, that is what I use. Definitely helpful.
Looking for a good cooling stand would be one that provides good circulation for you laptop. Elevated, slanted, good use of fans, maybe multiple fans.
Decreasing dedicated RAM, this can be done simply by taking common programs that function outside everything you are doing which arent very critical. To do this : On XP, you can click Start > Run > type in "msconfig" > Go to either of the two "Service" or "Start Up" tabs and look through those with guidance ( some of these functions are critical, there are some web sites that can help you at this point to decifer the critical programs that need to happen and the others that arent ) > Once that is complete > Ok > Restart Computer
On Windows 7 I have no clue. sorry
That was helpful to make my computer faster in general.

How old is it? If it is in the range of 7+ I suggest getting a new computer.

I was having the same problem... My fan on the back was caked up with dust. So I cleaned it with a Q-tip and it worked better. It works best now cause I moved a box fan in and use it on high to keep things cooled off.

There was a old topic that had a link to download GameBooster. Gamebooster helps free up some RAM so you get better fps while playing CoD. You can always google "gamebooster download".

Re: Computer problems
Are you having any BSOD (blue screens of death) when it shuts down? If so, I would point towards memory, hard drive or motherboard issues. If not, it might be your power supply slowly dying.
