Armed Forces Day.

Post by Phoenix on Sat May 19, 2012 10:39 pm

Hey folks,

Just thought I'd say a few words due to what today is...I was sitting in Dairy Queen (A Texas Restaurant Chain) with a friend today after work, I was still in uniform and an elderly gentleman with some obvious health problems walked up to me and thanked me for my service. I never know what to say when someone does this but I can tell you it makes me extremely proud to wear the uniform and reminds me what I'm fighting for. I'm not tooting my own horn or anything so don't get me wrong. I received an email from Pun the other day about American Sacrifice in WWII and these events have got me thinking, and as it is Armed Forces Day and I thought I would share my thoughts with you. I live in a military town so the public is used to seeing military members so its not too often that people thank service members, however, the people that usually thank me, and I assume other service members, are most often elderly folks. I feel that modern America and the most recent generation doesn't really understand what it means to serve near as much as the older generations who have seen war. I would encourage all of you to thank a Veteran , young or old especially those who have seen combat/deployment and been under the stress of losing their life and the lives of their buddies. I promise it will brighten your day and theirs as well. In closing as I know we have a few Veterans in MsM, I would like to thank all those who have served, or currently do serve. HUA! If you did serve I think it would be cool if you posted your Name and Rank/Branch so we can all thank you for your service, only if you want to of course.

A friend sent me this quote and I think it explains Veterans completely.
"A veteran is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to and including my life."
