Hi guys,

Just wondering if any of you out there use Acer or stick with HP's or Dells or what? I seriously need a new computer for work, gaming, normal internet stuff. Take a look. If any of you could recommend something I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

I like Toshiba for laptops and of course you can select what ever prefabbed configurations with hardware that you want / need. Pretty much all around good laptop especially for the money.

For desk models, if you are not able to build your own custom (which is the best, sometimes) then I would go with a Dell. My Dad really likes Dell also. We have both had very good experiences with them.

The main thing (I think) to remember is that there are a lot of good machines out there and you will pay a few extra bucks for name brand stuff but always check out the warranty and maybe purchase an extended warranty if the warranty makes sense. Hope this helps. God bless.

The way I look at computers is that it doesn't matter what name it has, but what it has inside.

My dad and my sister both have Acer laptops. My sister's is 4 years old and still running well, the other is about a year old.

As for the link you posted, the configuration on that machine looks pretty decent. I don't know much about that specific video card (I have the 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550Ti, myself), but I'm sure with a little research you can find the possibilities of that card.

I've heard good things about acer, as well as Toshiba laptops.

I myself have a dell laptop going on 5 1/2 years now...and it's taken a LOT of abuse. They can be a bit pricey at first, but well worth it from my experiences. Warranty is great; I've had my screen and keyboard replaced for free a couple times after some, uh, accidents.

As to your second question, I would say you would not need to transfer the card, seeing as the build you linked has a "Dell 1501 Wireless-N PCIe Card".

Dawg, I would go with the first Acer you linked.
The second build makes no sense to me:
-12GB of RAM is too much, you won't need more than 4-6GB to run smoothly.
-it only has 500GB of Hard Drive space vs the 2TB of space on the first Acer :/
-Not sure how much video memory is on the Dell video card.
-it's only $100 more for a better build (the Acer)

The Acer configuration is still in the lead!

Sorry wrong one. I was looking at the benchmarks and the video card below seemed better than the one on the Acer. Not that I know what any of that means but I want this new one to last for a while. 2x500 RAID on this one plus I have a WD external drive (1TB).

I stopped reading that list once I got to the new video card. I would never buy ATI/AMD again. The computer I have now came with an ATI/AMD card and it wouldn't run CoD1 or any other older games without using some different software. It lagged very badly because of that.

NVIDIA is a lot more reliable, it works way better when put together with an Intel processor (the i7 you chose). Like I said above, I have the 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550Ti and it runs everything beautifully.

Nvidia is pretty good for sure and also radeon has some really good graphic cards as well. I used both. Nvidia in my laptop and Radeon in my desk top.

No problems with either one but I have not done any gaming on my laptop (nvidia) but the desktop (radeon) where I do my gaming, has not ever let me down. Now watch it blow up when I go and turn it on later lol (HOPE NOT)

Yeah stay AWAY FAR AWAY FROM AMD! Thats my opinion for sure.

NVIDIA makes GeForce cards and ATI/AMD makes Radeon cards.

I dislike ATI/AMD very much.

Get an Intel processor (preferably the i7) and an NVIDIA video graphics card.

Vista is garbage. If anyone still uses it, I beg you, stop torturing yourself and either get Windows 7 or go back to XP.

I did not know that AMD made Radeon. I will have to change what I said then because I do like Radeon. OOPS sorry fellows but I have had a Radeon for about 4-1/2 years with no problems at all so I do like Radeon/AMD..

Nvidia or geforce is the very first graphics card I had and that was before I got the Radeon. I had a geforce in my desktop and it blew up so I went to Radeon. I now have a Nvidia in my laptop that does really good on movies and videos and everything so I like them both. I thought you were talking about AMD computers and I heard they were junk for sure.

Any part can blow up in a computer due to overheating or gets fried because it didn't have enough power from the PSU (Power Supply).

Another thing to not be cheap on is your PSU. My computer requires about 600W to run everything, but I bought an 850W PSU.

Shocked I was just stating my opinion of a Windows Operating System. I'm sure there are other things that take priority than a computer's OS. silent

Apple makes amazing computers. No antivirus is needed, no PC will ever boot up as quickly as a Mac, etc.

I would use a Windows PC for gaming only and a Mac for everything else. Very Happy

My first laptop was an acer. Good company and good machine. They are not a showboat company, but make a good laptop. Basic looks with mean guts. I played cod on mine and hit over a 100 in most games. It had a pent 4 3.0 processor with hyper threading....this was like 10 years ago...most desktops didn't have that.

If your looking for a gamer machine, I can lead you in the direction of a refurb gaming laptop that will smoke most for about 400 bucks. stats wld be like intel duel core cpu 3.0, 4 to 6 gigs of ram, .5 gig video card....

If I was getting a laptop I would try and get a lenovo or an acer. HPs are horrible in my opinion. Also if your getting it for gaming, make sure you get one with a dedicated graphics card. The graphics card is the most important thing in your computer from a gaming perspective. RAM and cpu will help your computer run faster overall (boot up, load times etc) and will improve gaming but not near as much as the graphics card.
